Course Organisation
· approximately 400 hours of lectures/tutorials over one semester

q in computer networks and telecommunications and more especially in wireless networks, mobile telecommunications and security
· project-based learning complements the more formal tuition programme. Here the students will be required to develop or manage a project, either individually or in groups.
· a 16-week (minimum) industrial or research placement completes the degree course, for those choosing option 2.
Course Descriptors
General Subjects – 4 modules
One module in essential communication skills, i.e. presentation skills, meetings, etc. One module in project management with accounting and company organisation. One module in basic international Internet regulations and legislation. One module in the basics of French language and civilisation and the French industrial environment.
Fundamental Science and Technology – 2 modules
Interconnection of Networks and Security and Telecommunications Engineering The objective - the acquisition and furthering of skills in the following
· networks installations, configuration and maintenance (interconnection systems)
· networks supervision and management
· installation, configuration, maintenance of operating systems, servers, clients
· installation, configuration, maintenance of telecommunication systems, telephony, automatic connectors
· the principles of functioning and the structure of cellular wireless communication networks (GSM, GPRS, UMTS, WiFi, DECT)
· terrestrial or satellite reception system devices
· television, radio-communications, telecommunications services
Specialised Scientific and technological modules
These modules concern the more specialised fields in wireless technology (wireless networks, cellular communications) and security. The skills acquired are
· installation, configuration and testing of a private wireless telephone network (frequency and time channels, covering, handover)
· installation and configuration of automatic connectors and telephony-computer coupling
· measurement of radio and network parameters on a public wireless network
· installation and configuration of WiFi-type access points and testing of the signal transmission quality
· configuration of terminals and applications for communication in a WiFi network
· choice of solutions among the various technologies (WiFi, GPRS, UMTS)
· risk-assessment and vulnerability of computer networks in general and wireless networks in particular
· installation and configuration of security protocols
· description of the main ciphering algorithms and their use.The specialisation also includes a module in Database Management Systems.
Industrial or research placement
For Option 2, the second semester of the degree course is a 16-week (minimum) industrial placement, carried out either in a company or in a research laboratory.
